A Bite of Class! International Students of the School of International Education Experience Traditional Chinese Food

On June 28, which happened to be the Islamic "Corban Festival", the full-time teachers of the School of International Education engaged international students in a unique experience class of Chinese plus traditional Chinese food in D10 public kitchen.

Ms. Zuo Yingzi showcased her culinary skills by preparing a variety of traditional Chinese delicacies, including Mapo Tofu, fish in pickled cabbage soup, and spicy crayfish. She enthusiastically engaged students in dumpling making. "First, we put the dumpling stuffing in the middle, dip some water around it, and then stick the dumpling wrapper together." Teachers demonstrated step by step in front of the countertop, teaching how to make crescent-shaped dumplings, fish-shaped dumplings and other wrapping methods hand in hand. International students held dumpling wrappers in their hands and wrapped them up one after another with peculiar shapes under teachers' demonstration. Some students joked with others that "you wrapped it too ugly", which did not affect their smiles at all. In addition, they shared the joy of cooking delicious food and enjoying traditional Chinese dishes with their families and friends through video calls.

Through this activity, students learned new words such as "making dumplings", "tofu", "spicy" and "crayfish" in their Chinese equivalents. They further improved their spoken Chinese and felt the teachers' good intentions in the process of preparing and experiencing delicious food.

The School of International Education presently employs a team of six dedicated TCSL teachers, both full-time and part-time. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the teaching team steadfastly caters to the Chinese language requirements of overseas corporate clients, offering online open courses for Chinese as a foreign language. They remain committed to delivering comprehensive Chinese training both online and offline. Teachers have been continuously enriching their teaching methods, which play an important role in telling China's stories and spreading Chinese culture while steadily improving the quality of Chinese language teaching.
